Swing Into Spring Concert Call Times

If you are playing in the spring concert you are asked to arrive at staggered times according to when you play so that the evening is organized and runs smoothly.  Please find you class below and go to the cafeteria on the day of the concert to sign with a teacher.

Spring Concert Tickets are On Sale Now



Tickets are on sale for the annual OTHS Spring Concert "Swing Into Spring".  The concert will take place Thursday, May 4th  in the OTHS theatre and tickets cost $10.00 per person.  This concert will feature performances from the Nationally ranked Wind and Sr. Jazz Ensembles as well as the Concert Band, Intermediate Jazz Ensemble, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and semester two Music classes.  Early purchase of tickets is advised since we have traditionally sold out all of our concerts well ahead of the performance date due to limitted seating in the theatre.

Guest Conductors in April

 Each of the OTHS bands that qualified for Nationals in May will have the opportunity to work with some terrific guest conductors this month as they prepare to go represent OT at Nationals in Niagara Falls.

The Sr. Jazz Ensemble will be working with Canadian Trumpeter Howard Leathers on April 27.  Mr. Leathers is a well known musician in the city of Toronto and has performed with the TLC Jazz Trio, The Starlight Orchestra, Matt Dusk and Colin Hunter.  Please note that this rehearsal will run from 3:00-5:00

The Wind Ensemble and Concert Band are happy to welcome back Colin Clarke who will be working with them in the month of April to help them prepare for Nationals.  Colin is currently the Artistic Director and Symphony Conductor for the Hamilton Youth Orchestra and has adjudicated many Musicfest festivals in the past. Below are the dates that he will be working with us:

Concert Band - Wednesday, Apr. 19 from 3:00-5:00

Wind Ensemble - Tuesday, Apr. 25 from 3:00-5:00

Students that are attending Nationals in May must sign up in rooms of 4.  Those who do not sign up for a room by April 5th will be placed in a room.  Please do not write or erase anyone's name without their permission.

Musicfest Canada's Nationals Information


ONLINE PAYMENTS OR CHEQUE PAYMENTS AND NATIONALS PACKAGES ARE DUE BY THURSDAY, MARCH 30th

Planning is underway for all three of the qualifying bands at OTHS to go to Nationals which is held this year in Niagara Falls

Where:  Niagara Falls, ON

When: Monday, May 15 to Tuesday, May 16th

What is included:  Transportation in a coach bus, hotel stay for one night, one breakfast, one dinner, a Musicfest concert, individual registration cost of $90 per student

Cost: $315.00 per student

REGISTRATION IS AVAILABLE ON CASHLESS

Regional Musicfest Results

Last week the Sr. Jazz Enemble, Wind Ensemble and Concert Band competed in the GHMF which is Musicfest Canada's regional festival. They earn the following rankings:

Concert Band B200 - GOLD

Sr. Jazz Ensemble 18 and under - Silver Plus

Wind Ensemble B400 - Silver Plus

All three bands have be invited to competed at Nationals this May.

Wind Ensemble Guest Conductor - Tuesday, Feb. 7 from 3:00-5:00

Following exams, the Wind Ensemble will be working with a guest conductor in preparation for Musicfest in February.  This will be taking place on Tuesday, February 7th from 3:00-5:00.  All members of the Wind Ensemble should make arrangements to be in attendance.
